Plein Air

Direct painting outdoors otherwise known as “Plein Air” as well as “Alla Prima” or direct portraiture are two of my recent artistic pursuits in oil painting. Taking years or study and research on the great Spanish painter, Joaquine Sorolla y Bastida, this ongoing series is a collection of oil and watercolor paintings created on site in far off places. Part documentary, part meditation, each direct painting is a response and unique view of place and culture. From landscapes to architecture, to urban and natural subjects alike I share my impressions of place in one single moment of direct observation.
