Masters of “ARTiculture” @ the Philadelphia Horticulture Show
The first day of Spring is here. The weather is still a little frosty in New York City, but an early March weekend in Philadelphia for the horticulture show sure put a “spring” in my step. My lady friends and I went last year and it was “BRILLIANT!“, read about it here. This year’s theme was “ARTiculture“. Right on trend with fashion’s art movement this spring, I was so ready to experience it.
My favorite is this surrealist arrangement. It fits perfectly into my “Surrealist Wedding” inspiration board on Pinterest. I even had found vases that are mannequin heads with holes in them, you can make botanical afros like these or use grasses and ivy for a more celestial arrangement.
Mondrian was represented in many ways including a walk through environment. I personally would love to see this wall in an urban park setting.
If you have Mondrian you must also have Kandinsky. The dichotomy between the two alone almost satisfy a foundation education in balance, tension, and composition.
How about a garden that tickles the brain with a solid dose of Dali?
The Brandywine Conservancy had a gorgeous outdoor living space arrangement featuring N.C. Wyeth’s studio and work. I have not visited the Brandywine myself but it is on my bucket list.
With so many floral and artistic presentations, the show was certainly a feast for the eyes and a buffet of beauty.
A lot of designers choose to use Hops as decor. Cool with me, I like a crisp IPA in the spring.
So what did I bring home for my own 19th floor urban garden you ask?
Erin and Peter at “City Planter” set me up with a wicked cool terrarium in green and purple to match my kitchen. I also got a second hanging garden in purple to go with my green one from last year.
Twiggs Terrariums from Brooklyn always has something wonderful for my Octopuses Garden. A jellyfish made from a single air plant and a sea urchin shell will do nicely.
With plenty of inspiration in the bag I headed off to the Wine Tasting!( Just in case you thought the show was all about flowers) A foundation study in all thing red, white and bourbon is sure to stimulate the senses.
If it’s got Albrecht Durer on the label it’s gotta be good!
I met Jim Rutledge distiller of “Four Roses“, a bourbon that is sure to “knock your hat in a creek little lady”, as my dad would say.
I am pretty sure this one is my favorite, I do love an earthy red…
