MANNEQU(IN) DEPRESSION
The “Mannequ(IN) Depression” series is inspired by the fashion industry’s diminishing value and relative sameness that permeates the last 20 years according to Dana Thomas’s book, “Deluxe: How Luxury Lost it’s Luster.” Working in the fashion industry developed an awareness of trading creativity for formulaic sell through. In an industry reputable for individual expression, uniqueness and luxury, this series contemplates the lost direction felt in a career of tech packs and receding creativity. With bar codes stamped on blank faces, the colorful and expressive application of paint announces a sense of hope for rebellion, newness, and expression, to call for a change of the old guard and the next generation of McQueen’s to define the new luxury.
